Restting Adjustment for 2025
In an attempt to tidy up the resetting we are exploring a more dynamic set of reset options which will be split into 2 options (Does the dump recieve the reset pass) and further each option is divided into 2 cases (can we reset easily into our third handler)
The important thing to remember is if we can move the disc for free then we move the disc for free, even if this is immediately backwards.
There is no excuse to hold onto the disc for the sake of yards.
Category 1 – Reset is open or Reset can get onto disc easily
Case 1 – Reset succeeds – our initial swing handler MUST have cleared the space to enable us to continue upfield to put cutters” even if our swing handler is open we want them to clear to enable to offence to flow
Option 2 – Reset is not open or does not recieve disc up the line
Case 1 – Swing handler (from a more aggressive position than shown) may make a cut back for the disc.
The swing cutter should only go behind the disc if they know they are going to be open enough to receive the pass. Otherwise we want to clear space asap. Shown in option 2 case 2
Case 2 – Swing handler is not guaranteed open and clears, leaving space for cutters to fill.
OLD SYSTEM – NO LONGER USED
I HAVE LEFT THIS IN TO HIGHLIGHT OUR CHANGES- Case a- Reset Succeeds and Free Swing
Do not cut back for the disc from the wide handler position.
Option 1 -Reset Succeeds – Swing clears – Cutters fill
Case 1- If the swing is not a guaranteed yard gain on stall 1 then they clear. It is better for this player to clear as the reset cut is happening to leave more time and space for downfield cutters to fill.
Option 2- Case a – Reset fails and allows swing to fill
Case 2 – A reset is considered failed if the thrower cannot make an immediate pass to the dump, the dump is not thrown to up the line. There should be no instances where a dump bounces backwards and does not get open, this is a result of poor cutting discipline.
Cat 2 – Case b – Reset fails and Swing clears and cutters fill
Case 2b – In this Instance it is even more important that the swing handler has driven into the centre of the field to provide a viable threat and if they are not confident that they will be open they need to clear early to ensure that there is enough time for a cutter to fill.
